About Fieldgate

Born from a familiar frustration

The idea started with Andy, a farmer near Knowstone in Devon, trying to find a ram. There were animals advertised, but finding the right one nearby was another matter.

Fieldgate brings that search closer to home. It’s for small farms and smallholdings as much as larger flocks and herds. One animal deserves a place here just as much as a whole flock.

You shouldn’t have to drive a hundred miles for a cockerel.

Local means local

Adverts stay within Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset. Choose a postcode or area and a distance, and Fieldgate keeps the results within that limit. You decide when to widen your search.

Distances are approximate straight-line miles, rather than road miles. Seller adverts show an approximate locality and postcode area, without displaying the full postcode.

Find it nearby. Sell it simply.

1. Find nearby stock. Choose an animal category and narrow the search by breed, sex, age, price and distance.
2. Talk to the seller. Use the contact details on an approved advert to discuss the animals, arrange a viewing and agree collection and payment directly.
3. Place an advert. Add a photo, a few useful details, a price and your location. Adverts are reviewed before they appear. Mark yours sold or withdraw it when it’s finished.

Can’t find what you need? Place a wanted advert so a nearby farmer can see what you’re looking for.

Free to buy. Free to sell.

Our aim is to keep everyday buying and selling on Fieldgate free: browsing adverts, contacting sellers and placing a basic advert.

We plan to support the marketplace through local business sponsorship and optional paid extras, such as featured adverts. The aim is for farmers and smallholders to be able to trade locally without needing a paid membership.
